AirportChatter: Privacy Policy

AirportChatter is an independent app for listening to airport radio alongside ambient music. This policy covers the app, beta testing, and AirportChatter support requests. Audio comes from external services, which receive data when your device connects to them. AirportChatter does not require its own account and does not operate its own audio relay or listening-history server.

Information stored on your device

The app stores preferences such as your selected station, volume levels, playback preference, and locally saved station records using the operating system’s app storage. This information is used to restore your settings. The native app does not send these preferences to a developer-operated server. Device backups may include app data depending on your Apple settings.

The tower’s time-of-day appearance uses your device’s clock and time zone; it does not need your location. The native app does not request access to your microphone, contacts, photos, or precise location, and has no developer-installed advertising or analytics SDK. This does not mean its external audio providers collect no data.

Airport audio — LiveATC

When the app prepares or plays a station, your device connects directly to the stream provider. The provider necessarily receives your IP address and the requested stream, and may receive technical connection details. A connection may begin while a station is being prepared, before you hear audio. LiveATC describes server logging and, for its websites and services, cookies and advertising technologies in its own policy. Not every website feature is used by AirportChatter’s native audio player.

LiveATC is responsible for its own processing. See LiveATC’s privacy policy and terms of use. If you use another stream provider, that provider’s privacy practices apply. The developer does not receive LiveATC’s listener logs.

Ambient music — SoundCloud

AirportChatter embeds SoundCloud’s official web player. It loads as part of the app interface and can contact SoundCloud and its service providers before you press Play, even when the music is paused or its volume is zero. Pausing music does not unload the player.

SoundCloud may process your IP address, browser/device information, listening activity, and cookies or similar identifiers. Its policy includes embedded widgets and describes personalization, analytics, advertising, sharing, and international processing. Account-related behavior depends on whether the player recognizes a SoundCloud session. AirportChatter receives playback events to coordinate its controls; it does not ask for or store your SoundCloud password.

See SoundCloud’s privacy policy and cookie policy and available choices. Use the privacy/cookie controls offered by SoundCloud where available. Quitting or force-quitting AirportChatter stops its embedded player; simply locking your device or putting the app in the background may leave audio playing; clearing cookies in a separate browser does not necessarily clear an app’s embedded web storage.

TestFlight and diagnostics

If you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple processes testing information and may make installation/session metrics, crash reports, device and OS details, and feedback available to the developer. Feedback can include your contact details, comments, and any screenshots you choose to send. These are used to investigate problems, respond to you, and improve AirportChatter, not to market to you or build advertising profiles. Avoid including sensitive information in screenshots or messages.

The app’s on-screen diagnostics show playback and connection state; merely opening that panel does not submit a support report. Apple’s collection is governed by TestFlight & Privacy and your Apple settings.

Contact form and website

The contact form sends your name, email address, message, and form/site identifiers to our form provider, Basin, for delivery and abuse prevention. Basin also receives technical connection information such as your IP address. We use your submission and any subsequent email correspondence to answer your request. Do not send passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information.

Viewing the form does not load a Basin script. Submitting it opens Basin’s response page. See Basin’s privacy policy.

The policy and support pages are hosted on the portfolio website. Opening them involves website hosting logs and its GoatCounter visitor statistics, separately from native app use. See the website privacy policy for GitHub Pages, GoatCounter, contact forms, and external links.

Where the GDPR applies, our processing relies on providing the functionality or support you request (Article 6(1)(b), where applicable), legitimate interests in responding to inquiries, securing services, and improving the beta (Article 6(1)(f)), legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)), or consent where required (Article 6(1)(a)). These statements concern our processing; external providers explain their own purposes and legal bases in their policies. Reading this policy is not consent to optional advertising or tracking.

Support information is handled through Basin and the email service used to receive and answer your message. Testing information is handled through Apple. We do not sell support correspondence or beta feedback, or use it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information if legally required or necessary to establish or defend legal claims. External providers have their own recipients and service providers.

Data may be processed outside Switzerland, including in the United States and European countries. The linked provider policies explain their processing locations and transfer safeguards. Applicable safeguards are required for transfers where the law requires them.

Retention and your choices

Local preferences remain until changed or removed from app storage. Deleting the iOS app normally removes its local container; macOS app preferences and device backups may remain separately. Removing the app does not delete records already held by external services.

We retain support correspondence and beta feedback only for as long as needed to resolve the request, investigate related issues, or meet legal obligations and defend claims. The criteria are whether the matter remains open, whether related follow-up is reasonably needed, and any applicable legal retention period. Data no longer needed is deleted or anonymized. Records held independently by Apple, LiveATC, SoundCloud, Basin, hosting, or email providers follow their policies and applicable obligations.

Depending on applicable law, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a portable copy of personal information we hold, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent for processing based on consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact us using the details above. We may need to verify your identity. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner or your competent data-protection authority. For records held by an independent audio provider, use that provider’s privacy contact.

Children and changes

AirportChatter is not directed at children. External services have their own minimum-age requirements; SoundCloud currently specifies 16 in the EEA/UK and 13 elsewhere. Do not use those services if you do not meet their requirements. Contact us if a child has submitted personal information to us so we can address it.

We will update this page when the app or our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will also be communicated through the app or release information as appropriate.
